Cariño Casas is a Texas-born journalist who is passionate about documenting life and human history no matter how broad or how intimately personal.
Whether the event is the news story of the year or the gathering of one family, Cariño knows that the happenings and interactions of the hour are intensely important to those participating, so she strives to capture those moments through photography.
LETTING YOU BE YOUWhen you hire a photographer to document an event, the resulting photos are for you… to display, to share, to cherish. Cariño knows she is just covering your story and works to be the objective observer capturing reality: all the beauty, elegance, goofiness and exuberance that is life, family and friendship. The best images are made when you are just being you.
PROFESSIONAL VERSATILITYNewspaper work exposes journalists to a broad range of topics, therefore those documenting must have various skills to tell the different stories of humanity. From soccer brawl to studio, Cariño understands that different events or narratives require different approaches. She is comfortable running alongside a subject for that perfect action shot or engaging a portrait subject in conversation to get to know them better.
She also knows when not to interject herself into the story, be it corporate function, intimate moment between bride and groom, or political protest.
EXPERIENCE AND PASSIONCariño earned a bachelor of arts in journalism from Texas A&M University. After four years at daily newspapers as a copy editor, Cariño picked up her camera and dove into newspaper photojournalism. Cariño has photographed a wedding for the New York Times, boxing bouts in Las Vegas, professional soccer in Los Angeles and corporate executives in Minneapolis.
Her favorite assignment is high school football on an autumn Friday night. Her favorite photograph is the latest one to capture the emotion of the day in one frame - no matter if it was taken at a company's grand opening, a sports championship or a wedding.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. It's also worth at least a thousand memories.
